’Esvagt Don’ on rig move on the Faroe Islands

’Esvagt Don’ has been one of the vessels designated to keep the West Hercules rig in position out in the middle of Skålefjorden.

The West Hercules rig has arrived at its anchor point in Rúnavík, also known as Skålefjorden, on the Faroe Islands for repairs and maintenance of its azimuths.

Atlantic Seadrill, owners of the West Hercules, chartered the ’Esvagt Don’ to keep the rig in position – originally along with the vessel ’Olympic Octopus’ and subsequently with the inspection vessel ’Brimil’ - while two of the rig’s azimuths were replaced and other azimuths maintained.

Divers carried out the work, during which all of the azimuths were of course deactivated. For the first five days, the ‘Esvagt Don’ assisted the ‘Olympic Octopus’ in keeping the platform in position but when the ‘Olympic Octopus’ was called upon to perform other duties in the North Sea, the ‘Esvagt Don’ took on the primary role as leading tug for the last 30 hours with assistance from the inspection vessel, ‘Brimil’. Using these two vessels for the replacement and maintenance work has saved the West Hercules a great deal of time.
