Fit for fight optimises ESVAGT

The suits workshop was the source of a real rationalisation bonus

Many fine suggestions have already optimised working practices in several areas.

Mariners come in many sizes – for example, ESVAGT has seen a few that have combined normal height with very large feet.

This has meant that special immersion suits have needed ordering, which over time has given a stock of many varied and obsolete suit sizes. Those suits have now been sent back to work, says Kristian Ole Jakobsen, Chief Operating Officer for ESVAGT:

“The suits workshop had approximately 80 suits in stock that were either extra small or combined a shoe size 52 (UK size 17) with normal height. Now that we have become certified to replace the boots in the suits ourselves, we have saved 300,000 Danish kroner by not having to buy new suits,” he says.

Odd-sized suits are just one of many contributions – large and small – that have been identified by the optimisation programme, Fit for Fight.

“We have received many constructive suggestions from the fleet, workshop and office and are pleased with the support and inventiveness,” says Kristian Ole Jakobsen.

Another example has been the bunkering of water. There was an existing water pipe in the warehouse that ESVAGT acquired in connection with the relocation last year. As studies carried out by Force Technology have proven the water quality from the pipe to be excellent, this water is now used for bunkering on ESVAGT vessels. This improves flexibility and reduces water costs by eliminating the need for external water suppliers.

The campaign continues and all suggestions are most welcome.
