The contract to deliver a servicing vessel for Statoil’s Dudgeon offshore wind farm brings with it an order for another specially built SOV (Service Operation Vessel).
ESVAGT has placed the order with the Norwegian shipyard, Havyard Ship Technology. Havyard has also built both of the ESVAGT vessels that will service the ’Baltic 2’ and ’Butendiek’ offshore wind farms. This vessel for the Dudgeon offshore wind farm will be the same type of vessel, says Ib Hansen, Head of Commercial for ESVAGT:
”The vessel will not quite be identical to the two others that will be delivered at the beginning of 2015 – but almost. The design and class will be the same and it will also be equipped with DP (Dynamic Positioning) and active roll damping,” he explains.
The new ship will act as base for the wind farm technicians who will be servicing and maintaining the wind turbines on the wind farm. The vessel will have room for 40 wind turbine technicians, all of whom will have single en-suite cabins. There will also be all the work facilities you can imagine (workshop, spare parts store, offices, etc.) and leisure (fitness, infotainment systems, lounge areas and more).
The vessel will be fitted with a gyro compensated gangway system so technicians can walk directly from vessel to turbine.
Similar to Horns Rev III
The Dudgeon Wind Farm is an enormous wind farm with 67 turbines. The 6 MW turbines, delivered by Siemens, will produce a total of 402 MW - the same level as the offshore wind farm, Horns Rev III, which is expected to be completed in 2017.
The Dudgeon Wind Farm is situated in the British sector 20 nautical miles (approx. 40 km, ed.) north of the town of Cromer on the East Coast of England. The base harbour will be Great Yarmouth.
