What makes ESVAGT a good workplace?

Comments rising from the Employee Engagement Survey.

Michael Bysted, master on board the ’Esvagt Echo’:

“First and foremost, we have an incredibly safe workplace. There is a great deal of focus on safety, both for each individual employee and for the work that we do as a team. There is also good job security and you know that agreements that are made will be kept. ESVAGT is a workplace where you can actually plan your free time and your work time. My background is in the fishing industry where pretty much nothing was certain.

The camaraderie and tone of communication are very important. It is like being at home when you are out there – we know each other and work well together, and we stay in touch out of work too. Having this good work culture and spirit of solidarity is an important element of job satisfaction. This is what we have at ESVAGT”.

“A survey is a good tool for finding out what is happening on board. We have a good work culture and communicate well, which means that you do not want to shout at each other. Instead, we give good, honest feedback. For example, I was told that I was not good enough at giving feedback, which is something I am working actively on”.

Hans Richard Pedersen, Fleet Personnel Manager:

“Teamwork and influence characterise ESVAGT in a way that you do not see many other places. The spirit that ESVAGT had when it was a small company is still here today. ESVAGT is what we make it. We all contribute what we want to it and we have the chance to develop and influence our everyday work in many ways. We are good at seeing opportunity and at finding solutions – that also means that we are good at giving each other the space we need to influence how we solve our tasks”.

“As a manager, I can use the engagement survey to gain a snapshot of how my colleagues feel and as a guide to where focus is needed in the future. One of my focus areas will, for example, be to become better at clarifying expectations between different teams”.
